Innovation – WA Game Changers Awards – 2022
I had the great pleasure to participate as a judge of the WA game changer awards held at Curtin University on 12th November 2022.
Around 44 school teams participated – both WA primary and secondary schools including regional schools from Bunbury and Marble Bar.
I was part of a team of three judges who assessed STEM projects from seven high schools in the the year 9-10 category.
Student engagement, enthusiasm and innovation was bubbling over.
Many projects were innovative with potential for scalable development.
Thanks to the game changers committee including Paul Moro, Bob Cross and Freddie Povey who made the day an outstanding success.
I would like to see more regional schools come to Perth to present their projects Face to Face – including schools from Kununurra, Broome, Karratha, Port Hedland, Newman, Albany, Esperance. Kalgoorlie and Geraldton.
Many of these schools are located in mining and oil/gas provinces – perhaps Rio Tinto, BHP, FMG, Woodside, KCGM, Roy Hill and the Dept of Education should consider providing sponsorship assistance for transport and accomodation for these school teams.
